From his scientific education onwards Frank van Overbeeke has always been involved in research and development. EMforce spends at least 20% of its turnover on innovations. Part of this is contract research for customers, while the other part is self-funded development.EMforce also participates in professional committees and working groups, such as Cigré NSC B4 (Power Electronics and HVDC).

On the project More Microgrids alone EMforce has spent, over a four-year time period, an amount equivalent to a full annual turnover. The spin-off of that project: Two Dutch and two European patents, various consultancy assignments, and the reputation of being a leading expert in the field of power electronics in distribution networks.
