Drive and control technologies

“The issue is always to steer and control electrical energy – reliably and efficiently.”

Drive and control technologies

The use of electronic controllers results in significant energy savings in variable-speed drives. A proper match of converter and motor is however essential to avoid problems like accelerated ageing of the motor, acoustic noise and mechanical instabilities. On the other hand, intelligent controllers enable the use of innovative motor designs, for example when an application-specific geometry or ease of manufacturing are preferred.

EMforce developed a converter for the permanent-magnet generator of a wind turbine, enabling perfect control of the turbine without the need of a position or speed sensor.
