“Many technologies are developing so rapidly that a feasibility study needs regular updating. The question is not if an idea is feasible, but when.” |
Feasibility studiesBefore a business invests large sums in a technological development, a reasonable estimate must be available of the technical feasibility of the intended result and of the main costs and benefits. Particularly in this phase, technological innovations can be scanned which may be crucial for the future quality and economic benefits of the new or improved product. For example, EMforce was asked by a power distribution company to assess the feasibility of a sensor using energy harvesting, in order to use it in a high voltage environment without battery or other type of power supply. For an industrial customer, a feasibility study was the first step in the development of a pulsed power supply using supercapacitors. |
